Winter by Candlelight

24” by 48”

Oil on canvas

My goal for this piece was to explore light in a dim setting. Over the winter months, smaller lights emerge: lamps, string lights, and candlelight become more apparent. I am fascinated with how faces and humans look in low light. Certain features become more dramaticized, while others fade. The blue flames add a magical sense to the piece, representing how winter feels to me.
